Walk Against Crime
In partnership with Shared Earth, Zuri Design and the Zuri Foundation is fundraising for a sponsored walk of the length of Britain!!
We are fundraising for KSEEEP which is a not for profit dance troupe based in Mathare Slum. The group aims to engage young people who have been involved in crime or at risk from becoming involved in crime or prostitution to survive daily life in one of Kenya's large slums.
We aim to bring the dance troupe to the UK to preform at a number of events. We also aim to support the many amazing initiatives KSEEEP run for young people in the slum which include raising school funds, employment skills training, football training and dance training!
Zuri Design has worked with Zakale Creations for 5 years now, a jewellery workshop in Mathare slum whih focuses on youth employment and has turned lives around for many young people. Zakale Creations founder, John Kangara is on the board of KSEEEP and a founding member. Milton, head designer at Zakale was once a gang member in Mathare and involved in crime. He met John who helped him leave that way of life. He is now a very successful designer at Zakale Creations and has turned his personal life around too. Milton is a very inspirational man to many young people in Mathare and all of us at Zuri and Shared Earth. Milton will join us in 2013 on the Walk Against Crime and will hold talks along the way so you can hear first hand what it is like to grow up in Mathare slum.
A 3 week walk from Shared Earth in York to Zuri Design in Liverpool will be held in July 2012 - a practice run for the walkers! We will hold talks along the way on what we are trying to achieve. Details will be posted on the Walk against Crime website very soon.
Visit www.walkagainstcrime.org for full details. We need as much help as possible, if you cant join us for part of the walk perhaps you can put a collection tin in your shop or send the details out to all your friends, colleagues and family.
